Cefalù

“Italy is incredible: and you have to go to Sicily to see how incredible Italy is”,

Leonardo Sciascia.

Cefalù, selected among I borghi più belli di Italia (the most beautiful villages in Italy), is among the most fascinating destinations in Sicily. Located on the northern coast, between a crystalline sea and an imposing promontory, it is a perfect example of the beauties that the Italian territory has to offer. Built around the Rocca, an imposing mogote which over the centuries held a defensive role, the ancient Kephaloidion – from the Greek head, which refers to the natural conformation of the rock that overlooks the city – has been the scene of multiple dominations over time. The heart of the ancient city is Piazza Duomo, where the profile of the Norman Cathedral, built in the twelfth century by King Roger II and today inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, stands out. From here, points of artistic, landscape and cultural interest branch off and follow up to Via dei Mulini, that hosts Alberi del Paradiso Hotel in a vast park surrounding three ancient water mills and overlooking the gulf. Cefalù is one of the places that the cinema has fallen in love with since its first filming, from the great classics such as Vacanze d’amore, A ciascuno il suo and Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, to more modern giants such as Indiana Jones 5 and the TV series The White Lotus and From Scratch, the latter of which was also filmed in the evocative settings of our sister hotel Le Calette.
